Matthews joined the Crusaders ahead of the 2019 season after spending much of 2018 supporting the club as a dedicated volunteer.

Known for her humour, positivity, and bubbly personality, Matthews quickly became a regular member of the Crusaders ‘A’ team and has remained a valued part of the squad ever since. She marked an early milestone in her playing career by scoring her first Crusaders try at the 2019 Peacock Cup.

Alongside her contributions on the court, Matthews has been widely recognised for her commitment to the club away from playing. Her dedication was particularly evident during the 2022 season, when she continued to attend and volunteer at every Crusaders fixture despite being heavily pregnant.

A popular figure throughout the club, Matthews has received a number of awards in recognition of both her playing contributions and outstanding commitment to the Crusaders.

The 2026 season will see Claire sponsored by, The Royal Oak Wrexham, nestled between some of Wrexham's biggest and oldest building in the heart of Wrexham's high street. The Royal Oak has been an ever present of the Wrexham nightlife since opening its doors. A proud part of the Joule's Brewery family, the Royal Oak is known for being one of the narrowest establishments in Wrexham whilst also stretching for over 40 yards as well as having the centre's only working stone fire place.
