Match Report: Crusaders claim their third consecutive Cwpan Silians with a comprehensive victory over Crusaders Celts

  • North Wales Crusaders lifted the Cwpan Silians Cadair Olwyn for the third year in a row after overcoming inter-club rivals the Crusaders Celts 84-25.
  • The youthful trio of Matthew Turner, Fionn McCabe and Jakub Wasieczko dominated for the Crusaders. The trio racking up 58 of their sides overall points tally.
  • Crusaders Celts player-coach and former Wales international, Harry Jones creeped closer to becoming the first-ever Crusaders player to reach 1000 career points, his points tally ticking over to 992 across 178 appearances for both club and country.


In the battle of the Crusaders sides in Cwpan Sialans Cadair Olwyn, North Wales Crusaders beat Crusaders Celts 84-25 to win the trophy for the third year in a row.


It was end to end for the first 15 minutes, until NWC broke away to take command of the game.


Fionn McCabe went over first for NWC with Matthew Turner converting, only for Wyatt Jones to quickly reply with a try that Martin Turner converted.


Unconverted tries from McCabe and Martin Turner put the score onto 10-10 on 12 minutes.


Jakub Wasieckothen went over for a quick brace, with McCabe completing his hat-trick. Matthew Turner converted all three to put his side 28-10 up on 24 minutes.


Wyatt Jones scored a try back for Celts, after being denied once on the line a couple of tackles earlier. Harry Jones kicked the goal.


But NWC went into half-time 46-16 up after two further tries from Wasiecko and one from World Cup captain Stuart Williams. Jonathan Gill added two goals and Williams one.


NWC brought up 50 points early in the second half, Wasieckogoing over for an early couple of tries with Gill converting both to put the score onto 58-16.


Two unconverted Celts tries, both from Wyatt Jones, closed the gap slightly, but NWC soon regained control thanks to tries from Booth, Wasiecko and Matthew Turner, who converted his own try.


Further NWC tries followed, through McCabe and Williams, both of which Gill converted.


But it was Celts who completed the scoring with a Harry Jones drop goal.
