2025 WELSH LEAGUE

2025 PREVIEW: WRL Invitational League

North Wales Crusaders are set to enter the Wales Rugby League Wheelchair Invitational League again in 2025

The Wales Rugby League Wheelchair Invitational League which was launched in 2023 consisting of five founding clubs; Cardiff Blue Dragons, North Wales Crusaders and Torfaen Tigers of Wales along with English sides, Argonauts and Hereford Harriers.

The competition which ran throughout 2024 culminated with a Grand Final in Cardiff  which saw Kent based side, the Argonauts claim the trophy in a highly competitive game against the Crusaders.

Such was the success and popularity of the first two seasons, where all games are available to watch on YouTube, this year’s campaign has seen some change as reigning champions Argonauts withdrew their application whilst Hereford Harriers elected not to apply for a space in the competition. With these two sides not in the competition, Swindon St. George will enter the competition for the first time following a multi-year hiatus from Wheelchair Rugby League.

There has also been some change within the Crusaders relating to the competition, in 2025 the club will field one solitary team into the competition as apposed to the two in which were fielded in 2024. This is to help players develop more as the club aims to split their playing roster into RFL and WRL squads with as little crossover as possible to prevent player burnout.

Stephen Jones, the manager for Wheelchair Rugby League in Wales, said: "It's with great pleasure that we are able to announce the fixtures for the new WRL Wheelchair Invitational League.

"Last year's competition was a big success and we're certain that this year will be just as successful.

"We'd like to thank Argonauts and Hereford for their participation over the last two years. They've left the competition for different reasons and they'll be welcomed back in another year if they wanted to submit an application.
